Cleft lip and Palate Foundation Limited (CLPFL) is a medical charity headquartered in Hong Kong (IR File No. 91/16695) to provide free surgeries for underprivileged children with cleft lips or palates in countries under the One Belt One Road initiative. CLPFL was formed in 2017 when we saw the demands of cleft lips and palates children in the Belt and Road region. However, due to the global pandemic of COVID, its work has been halted for a few years. We are now resuming the missions in these countries. Cleft lip and palate is the most common congenital deformity in life birth. Although it is usually not life-threatening or devastating in terms of chances of survival of children, it causes physical and immense psychological trauma to the children and their families for life. Through an approximately one hour operation, their lives will change forever. Through its local and China volunteers, CLPFL organizes medical missions with accredited medical volunteers and non-medical volunteers. It also aims to involve students as non-medical volunteers to enlighten their empathy towards the sufferings of others.
